Great memories of life on board the Hinea. Delivering AvTur to Cam Rham Bay in Vietnam.
I did a 'man's run'; stayed on board for 18 months.
Joined in Djibouti, hove to for 2 days in either the Red Sea or the Indian Ocean, then tramped to Singapore, then to Sydney, up to Yokohama (Summer to winter (really cold in Yokohama); Sydney, Yokohama, Port Moresby, Singapore. Wow it was just excellent.

I was named after this tanker. My Dad was on it in after meeting my Mum. I was almost named Megara as that was the one he was on when I was born!

Joined the Progress as she was towed into Palermo Spring 74 with extensive rudder damage after driving onto a sandbank going astern and with a sgegless rudder, the repair was a series of disasters and took sever blissful weeks, many happy days spent on the magnificent Modello beach a bus ride away.

Henry Dawson Lowery @ NORTHIA (1), Tue, 01/30/2018 - 13:49

My Father was 5th Engineer on the Northia during WW2. I understand she may have been included in both the Arctic, and North Atlantic convoys between the eastern seaboard of the United States and the Russian ports of Murmansk and Archangel. He told me this but I am struggling to locate the evidence. I am currently attempting to apply for both the Arctic Star and Atlantic Star posthumously for him. If anyone has any information given to long time lapse I would be grateful.

M West @ SAN CIRILO, Tue, 01/30/2018 - 02:36

Laatste schip van mijn vader, John Budding. Samen met mijn meevarende moeder Jeanny Budding kregen ze een fantastisch afscheid. Echt een party zoals mijn vader dat kon zeggen. (info door Joyce ter Brugge-Budding)

John Budding @ KREBSIA, Wed, 01/24/2018 - 00:15

Jeanny Budding, echtgenote van John Budding, moest met grootste spoed van boord naar ziekenhuis om te bevallen van dochter Yvonne. Bijna geboren op de Krebsia.

Leo Klippel @ MANUELA, Thu, 01/18/2018 - 15:54

, woonde destijds in Den Helder .
Graag zou ik alsnog weer eens met hem in contact willen komen.
Wie kent deze persoon of misschien leest hij zelf wel deze oproep , hoop ik .
Bij voorbaat mijn dank .

Max Sweetman @ AMORIA (1), Mon, 01/01/2018 - 22:50

I am an Aussie was working on the wharfs in Durban Sth Africa trying to work my passage back when a workmate told me there as a tanker at the tanker wharf that was short of crew so I applied for a job on board, the skipper was a bit hesitant but as they were short on crew he signed me on, on the understanding that we would eventually end up in London.
That was great for me and I enjoyed every moment I spent on Amoria.
We went up the coast of Africa, out of Curacao around the West indies.
Out of Cardom Lakes Sth America and finally signed off in London.
I think I was on board 6 to 8 months and loved every minute, enjoyed the company of the crew and was put on the job of 5th engineer with the 2nd engineer.
They called me Aussie on board.
That was definitely a highlight of my life.

William James Davies @ ACHATINA (1), Sat, 12/23/2017 - 12:49

My father WILLIAM JAMES DAVIES WAS THE 2nd officer (engineer) on this Tanker, he lived in Cardiff South Wales and told me many things about his loyalty to his chinese engine crew.
During one trip, his fingure was severed by the machinery and the stopped the bleeding by winding cabwebs over the wound before dipping the wound in molton tar to stop the bleeding.
Prior to joining the merhant navy, he had been an officer in the Royal Navy,

Ronald Morrice @ ARIANTA (1), Sun, 12/17/2017 - 19:21
