An uncle, Frank Kennedy sailed in Simnia, I believe as an apprentice, but left her after only one voyage. He left Shell Tankers, and went on to sail in several foreign flagged vessels. He was apparently a bit of a loner who could not settle for long.

My late father W N Caire served aboard the Sinia during 1939-1940 as a Royal Australian Navy Seaman as a gunner. He served during the war from 1939-1945 as a DEMS (Defensively Equipped Merchant Seaman) gunner and the Simnia was the first of 6 merchant ships that he served upon. After the war he built his home and named it after the Simnia with a brass plaque on the wall adjacent to the front door.
