Completed 1935 as "AMASTRA" for Anglo-Saxon. 1943-1946 served as MAC 4, conversion to Merchant Aircraft Carrier (MD) by Smiths Dock North Shields. 1951 to Shell France and renamed "IDAS". 27-6-1955 arrived Spezia for scrap.

My Dad was the RO on Amastra during Atlantic convoys ,all our houses have been named Amastra as long as I can remember ,he served on many ships mostly tankers through the war and was called Ken or Kenny Hardie ,he joined the MN before his eighteenth Birthday as he had all the qualifications,so lied about his age !,his amateur call sign in Glasgow is not known by me but he retook the exam in the early eighties and was then G4SNU - I proudly took the call sign after his death

My Uncle Edward Switzer served in the Merchant Navy on the Amastra to 25th June 1951, as a fireman/greaser
