On the 3rd December, 1961, after having loaded cargo we left the port of Pladju near Palembang, Indonesia and headed down the Musi River. On reaching the river bar we ran aground and all efforts to get the ship off with our own engines failed. We waited for an appropriate high tide the next day but all efforts to get under way failed. On the following day, 5th December, no attempt was made as the tide was not high enough, but a tug arrived and was standing by. On the 6th we tried again and she started moving, and finally got under way bound for Singapore after a three day delay. |

I was an engineer officer for Shell from 1966 to 1970. I sailed on the Arianta for 6 months in 1967/8. Unfortunately I cannot remember exact dates. It was my first trip as 4th Engineer and a senior watchkeeper. |

Joined in Malta, as Deck cadet, Later we damaged the bow entering the dock at Antwerp and later smashed the prop at Stanlow. The crew on board at that time were fantastic, never been on a ship like it. Brilliant. |
