My dad was 3rd Mate on the Empire Crest. He travelled to Australia in it, leaving 18th May 1945. Pay was A?20 per month plus A?10 war risk money. Unfortunately the ship was grounded North of Australia and was towed to Brisbane where he spent the happiest 8 months of his life whilst waiting for repairs.

He wrote a poem detailing the story, which I think is rather good!
