HELICINA ex. OLEANDER

About

Completed 1946 as Oleander for the Admirality. Returned to Anglo-Saxon and renamed "HELICINA" . 20-4-1962 arrived Blyth for scrap. Anglo-Saxon ordered two large fast tankers in WW2 from Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson at Wallsend.

The first, intended to be named Hyalina, was taken over by RFA before completion in 5/1945, and was named OLNA. It had various changes in equipment and crewing, and was scrapped at Castellon in 1967.

Second was building as Helicina, also taken over by RFA, and intended to be completed (10/1946) and intended to be named OLEANDER. However, WW2 had ended, so was returned to Anglo-Saxon and completed as planned as HELICINA.

A replacement ship was ordered from the same builders to replace the original Hyalina, which was completed in 2/1948 as HYALINA.

So there were three tankers of this class.
