01/20/2016 - 17:59 In the early 1960's, I was a teenager living on the Oregon Coast near Coos Bay. Our home overlooked the shipping channel. One day the Thorshall lost its steering and struck a dredge in the middle of the harbor. My family witnessed the entire event. Several men drowned and the event was written up and photographed for Life Magazine, I think the magazine was. It was an amazing sight to see, with helicopters making rescues and Coast Guard boats trying to direct fishing boats that were out to help. Write me if you want to know more.
07/24/2007 - 12:06 I found three poems in an old book written by someone on the MV Nayadis on the 5/4/1951. The first poem on called 'On the J.B.S' It goes ... 'he was one of the better class, so it was thought, his accent terrific.. but he was just ' Benji' to us. This poem has five stanza's. It is signed G.D.D MV Nayadis. The second poem is 'To Shorty' writing about a barman and cook. Their motto was 'Give and Take'. Two women, Edith and Maureen are mentioned. The third poem is about 'Charlie', who was 'Cock of the Walk'. If anyone knows who these folk are, or who wants the poems, please email me.
