I am still waiting to hear from anyone who was on the ?PLATIDIA? between January 1969 and February 1970. A long and eventful trip. I did hear from Donald Travis. He was chief officer for the last couple of months before pay off in Liverpool.

Anyone remember the voyage on the PLATIDIA from Cardiff dry dock January 1969 to pay off in Liverpool in March 1970? An eventful trip. I was one of the very few that actually completed the entire trip. |

Thank you for such a great site. I sailed on a few shell tankers between 1968 and 1971. I worked on deck. My special memories are of my trip on the PLATIDIA. We sailed from Cardiff dry dock in Jan. 1969 and didn?t return to the UK until March 1970. We were based in Curacao and traded mainly to the east coast of the USA. Also all over the Caribbean, Venezuela two trips to West Africa and one trip to the Med. It was an eventful trip. Some names I remember were, a rather pompous captain named Holroyd, first mate named Saunders, second mate named Kelly, he was from Scotland and a real gentleman. I also remember a third mate named Anderson. And, a huge Scottish engine room store keeper, Dusty Miller. When I found the site all the memories came flooding back. |
