03/07/2005 - 23:21 The sts Heldia sailed from Smiths Dock on Nov 1956. The engineers on board were: Chief eng- A Hudson from Newcastle 2nd eng - A Parks from Ullapool 3rd eng - Duncan from Macduff,also served in Korea in army he was quite a personality. 4th eng - Myself 5th eng - J Bentley who left us at Port Elizabeth South Africa. 5th eng - Eric Field from Manchester area Eng App - Phillip from Ireland This was a very happy ship as far as the engineering staff were concerned. Would like to hear if any one of you have any memories. This was the Heldia's second trip from new.

02/25/2005 - 21:35 I joined my first Shell Tanker in Dublin in 1956.She was the mv PATELLA official no 181581, built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast in 1946.tonnage was 12,398. Traded between Curacao and east coast of USA carrying bitumin. Would like to hear if anyone else on site has heard of this vessel. Master was capt Barnes, and the chief eng was WB Allison from Edinburgh. Best Wishes John Rae. ex 5th engineer mv Patella.
