04/13/2009 - 21:36 Hello everyone who sailed with Joe Shell in the 60s . I would be interested to hear from anyone who did Phase 1 & 3 or MAR in Plymouth . I joined in Sept 63 being made up to uncert. 3 rd mate in 66 . I stayed long enough to get a mate's ticket before coming ashore in 71 . I've seen a few familiar names from those days where I have fond memories of the old H boats particularly out East . Did anyone stay in Shell to retirement ?
11/28/2008 - 12:17 Hello Ray Gorbutt , I remember you from Phase 1 & 3 at Plymouth ( You were CCC Boats ? ) . I have happy memories of the H boat days out of Singapore and my second home , Connell House Hotel , where I spent most of the time dodging agents and ships ! I left Shell in 1970 and somehow became a bank manager , retiring 7 years ago . I command a 20 ft boat out of Falmouth now. Talking of hollow laughs , who remembers Captain J Russell , my first skipper as uncertificated 3 rd. mate on Haminea 1966 . Happy days !
